Continuing education remains central to the delivery of thoughtful, evidence-based dental care. From September 3–7, 2026, Dr. Choi of Del Amo Dental Group served as faculty for the 55th GIA (Great Implant Academy) Implant Placement Live Surgery Course in Tijuana, Mexico.

Throughout the program, Dr. Choi worked closely with participating dentists to advance their knowledge and clinical skills in both immediate and delayed implant placement.

Lectures Paired With Hands-On Instruction

The course combined classroom instruction with hands-on training, case review, and live surgical experience. Dr. Choi presented lectures on the foundational principles of implant dentistry and worked directly with participants as they applied those principles in a clinical setting.

During the live surgery portion of the program, he guided participants through treatment planning, surgical techniques, and clinical decision-making in real time. With close faculty oversight, participants gained practical experience in:

  • Immediate implant placement, in which an implant is placed at the time of tooth extraction
  • Delayed implant placement, in which the site is allowed to heal before implant placement
  • Patient and case selection
  • Surgical planning and preparation
  • Step-by-step implant placement techniques
  • Management of clinical considerations throughout treatment

By addressing both approaches, Dr. Choi helped participants understand how the timing of implant placement is determined according to each patient's individual clinical presentation.

A Commitment to Clinical Education

Serving as faculty for an immersive live surgery course requires more than presenting educational material. It involves closely observing participants, providing guidance in real time, demonstrating techniques, and helping clinicians build confidence — all while upholding rigorous standards of patient safety.

Dr. Choi was present throughout the program, providing lectures, hands-on instruction, and guidance during live procedures. The course also offered an opportunity to exchange knowledge with fellow dental professionals committed to advancing implant care.
